Newreel on Fashion in Biella 2010

During my residency period I am working on the project Newsreel on Fashion in Italy 2010. I photograph, videotape and interview people from Biella and surrounding, San Remo and Trento on the topic of fashion, clothing, everyday life and their preferences in clothing. Fashion is used as a Mc Guffin.A MacGuffin (sometimes McGuffin or maguffin) is "a plot element that catches the viewers' attention or drives the plot of a work of fiction".[1] The defining aspect of a MacGuffin is that the major players in the story are (at least initially) willing to do and sacrifice almost anything to obtain it, regardless of what the MacGuffin actually is. In fact, the specific nature of the MacGuffin may be ambiguous, undefined, generic, left open to interpretation or otherwise completely unimportant to the plot. (Examples might include money, victory/glory, survival, a source of power, a potential threat, etc....or something entirely unexplained.)
A newsreel was a form of short documentary film prevalent in the first half of the 20th century, regularly released in a public presentation place and containing filmed news stories and items of topical interest. It was a source of news, current affairs and entertainment for millions of moviegoers until television supplanted its role in the 1950s. Newsreels are now considered significant historical documents, since they are often the only audiovisual record of historical and cultural events of those times.
Through conversations about clothing, my original idea is to develop a relaxed study of mentality. People are posing assuming the role of a model in a fashion photo session or are creating poses suggested by me as a photographer, on the lawn, beside a wall or by a tree, in the street, in front of a shop... One of the aims is to find the socioeconomic trends that shape life.
